Madrid, Toledo, Burgos, and Bilbao SPAIN

MADRID

Madrid other than being the capital is known for bull fighting. What I didnt know is it is the only city that kills the bulls, about 6 per show! It’s so sad to me. Other Spanish cities have outlawed it but Madrid found a way to keep it. So if you are into that kind of thing Madrid is the place you want to see a bull fight; if not any other cities bull fighting isn’t violent. Madrid also had beautiful buildings, tapas, and amazing hang outs. We took an excursion to Toledo that was 5 hours so I only had the morning and night in Madrid. There are many other great cities close by Madrid to see as well like Segovia( 30 mins by train) Or Seville (3 hours by train) so be sure to research if you are going.

Sight seeing:

  • Plaza Mayor– A huge square where locals hang out at nights. Its filled with restaurants and souvenirs shops. Its right next to a huge indoor Fresh Market.
  • El Sol- Great place for shopping. Has many sculptures including the famous bear.
  • Royal Palace of Madrid
  • City Hall of Madrid– Old Palace very pretty with a fountain out front.
  • Alcala Gate
  • Plaza Monumental de Toros– Bullfighting ring.
  • Prado Museum– Best museum in Madrid.
  • Retiro Park– Beautiful park.
  • Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum– Another great museum
  • Cerralbo Museum– Mansion turned into a museum.

TOLEDO

Toledo is a cute little city and a great day trip from Madrid. It has a beautiful cathedral called the Toledo Cathedral. The cobblestone lined streets are filled with restaurants, souvenir shops, and clothing places. They have special desserts that they are known for. Its just fun to walk around in for a couple hours. We went while they were celebrating something so there were flags everywhere which normally there are not.

Leaving Toledo:

BURGOS

A very small town that has a river running through it and a beautiful Cathedral. We stopped her for lunch and to stretch our legs.

BILBAO

We just stopped here to see the Guggenheim and stay the night.
